Indie Art Sale! – 22 & 23 Sept – All Set To Go

Visual Disobedience feature in the Sunday Midday here will be hosting an art exhibition in Mumbai to launch their website.

I painstakingly printed out some prints on my home printer to post from London for the exhibition.

The printer repeatedly rejected my beautiful art printing paper. It behaved atrociously throughout. (We have real communication issues.)

But at last, all prints were mailed off. The details ironed out, launch party is all set to go.

I also managed, after 4 years of waffling about, to convert janineshroff.wordpress.com into janineshroff.co.uk. Feeling rather pleased with myself. All the technical stuff with DNS and servers and app keys and god knows what else is really beyond me.

Arty-farty types are going to be here, lots of other people are going to be there.

Damn it. Why aren’t I going to be there?

But some of my prints will be.

Postman delivered, Mother has framed. (After some long distance phone call wrangling)

Now – Watch this promo and go on the 22 & 23 of September!

Go go go!!! (Pretty please?)

One of the biggest sales of indie art work, a community art project and a talk by Sudhir Mishra for young and aspiring directors,

BBQ framed in white. Quite nice I like white. I'm usually quite conservative with frames. I go with walnut or black.

Someone found my blog by typing in

i am sad for no reason

Wow.

I mean what more can be said?

Although, what does that say about this blog, hmm?

Reminder: Only 2 days left for free world-wide shipping!

Free Shipping offer ends 29 Jan 2012!

Burn that date into your memory.

Just 2 measly days to decide on which print/skin/Tshirt you could buy from my shop, that would change your life forever!

Ok so it probably won’t change your life much, except that visitors to your house (should you hang it there) would turn to you and say,

“Oh my god, what is that drawing?? And why are there so many naked bird people? That’s a little weird.”

Which could be highly entertaining for you.

You could also hang it in your loo or a corridor, or if you really liked it your living room.

Aren’t I being good?

Plugging it and shit.

I feel so business like and professional.

GO GO GO GO GO NOW! There is no time like the now! Click here.

Who likes to pay for shipping anyway? Waste of money. Seriously.

Indian Woman – Prints and Skins

Prints! Skins! Good shit! The T-shirt! Go on! Click here!

This is the final version of a little drawing from my sketch book.

I scanned in the line drawing, converted it to a vector shape in Illustrator and then imported it into Photoshop to colour it in.

I find working in Illustrator nearly impossible and extremely frustrating. I don’t understand why they can’t allow you to use the same tools and method as you do in Photoshop to create and edit vector shapes. Illustrator is so fucking non-intuitive.

I just use it for the bare minimum and then do the rest in Photoshop. I also got some textures from my favourite texture repository Lost and Taken just for good measure and used them for the background. They took a week of fiddling about, leaving it, looking at it later, then some more fiddling to get it right.

I’ve not been as prolific with my sketch book as I should be.

My rape rick drawing stalled after 2 weeks because that app project (which has been going on for over a year) finally reached its long overdue climax. Even though the client made various attempts to impede progress by changing their mind constantly. (Sigh. I can’t even bear to go into it.)

So my bosses said the other say that they wanted to have a chat with me.

“Uhm…is this a good chat or a bad chat?”

I felt dubious about this so-called ‘chat’.

“No no it’s a good chat, to discuss your work and stuff.”

“Oh good, as long as I’m not getting fired…”

They said they were very pleased that of all the people in the office I stay behind and work late and want to reward me so I keep it up etc etc.

I said since it wasn’t going to a bad chat we could have it when I come back from my holiday.

The ex said I was a dolt and I should have had the chat right then and there. The ex is constantly collaring the bosses to ‘chat’ about the ex’s inevitable world domination.

That’s all very well (working late and so on), but my illustration is being severely impeded by all this enthuness in the work department. I’ve been too tired when I come home to pick up the illustration slack even though I’ve populated my shop and have been doing stuff like this. (Digital illustration I mean)

Indian Woman iPhone Skin

Indian Woman iPhone Skin. I don't know how many people want flowery lotus breasts on the back of their phone. Should I remove them?

I’m rather pleased with myself for colouring this in digitally. All the shapes inside the woman are vectors, so she can be stretched to fit nearly any format.

I also wanted her to be printable on colour T-shirts (I don’t know how colour prints turn out on pre-coloured T’s). So there’s a black and white line version for the green, red, blue and yellow T-shirts.  I think I’m going to buy this or the red one.

Then I was so carried away I even created a landscape version for the Laptop skins. (Which I rather preferred in the end to the portrait so I made some prints of those too.) It it cuts the boobs in half so they don’t seem so…uh…booby.

I could probably change the letter in the circle. I dunno.

Bathtub – Now Available As Prints & Skins

Another drawing I scanned last weekend and stitched together.

I expected this one to be especially tricky becuase of the mass of scribbles on the left, but it was surprisingly quick (comparatively).

I scanned all the individual A4′s scans at 500 dpi just in case I needed it. Really 300dpi would have sufficed.

The problem with compositing these high-res scans together is that the resulting file is massive.

And everything slows down a little, at least on my laptop. Photoshop gets pretty sluggish.

I wanted to experiment with scribbles on the left and tighter drawing on the right, for this one.

Available as prints, skins and when I eventually cut-out bits of it out, as a T-Shirt. Click here to buy.

My Shop - Unframed Prints only $18! free Shipping too.

God dammit!

I just bought a T-shirt last week  (there was $4 off all T-Shirts) and now I want to cancel it so I can buy it again just to qualify for the free shipping.

But I already asked them to cancel it once before (I thought I’d like to change the colour, but then I didn’t change the colour), and now I feel shy about doing it again.

Seriously, should I or shouldn’t I? – The difference is like $6. No point no?

OK so go buy a print or a T-shirt quick, or Free Shipping will end!

And you’ll be filled with regrets like me.

The ex bought the Enthu Cutlet T-shirt and I was verrrrrry pleased by that.

The T-shirt arrived last week and it’s actually really good. I was pleasantly surprised. The print quality is excellent and it’s a really soft fabric. I love the natural colour too.

So I went and bought one too (The Goddess, so appropriate for me). I’m going to take it to Bombay and have my tailor (or my mother) adjust the neckline so its more flattering for my inflatable breasts. (High collars don’t suit me as well as a low neck line)

I might buy another one besides the one I so STUPIDLY bought before they announced the free shipping. Can’t decide if I should go with Enthu cutlet or the Indian Knight.

Or maybe another one? The Tea Party? Which one?? Argh. Someone help me decide.

So which one do you guy think I should go for?

Turkish Bath – Now on Society6

I spent all Sunday and many hours after that painfully scanning three A1 drawings on a A4 scanner.

I looked all over London but couldn’t find anyone scanning high-resolution drawings.

Which frankly astounds me. Don’t other people want their large work scanned? Apparently not.

Each drawing needed about 9-11 overlapping scans, then I needed to stitch them all together in photoshop.

You have to start at one corner and overlap them, top to bottom and left to right, using the ‘multiply’ filter to align the details of the drawing as closely as possible. Usually the scans are at various angles so you have to gently rotate all the pieces to get them to align.

It’s excruciating.

But I finished this one and it’s available as prints and skins on society6.

Go get a print!
